1.4 - Support a business climate and complementary production and marketing approaches that recognize the contribution of local production in addition to existing domestic and international market opportunities for Alberta’s agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sectors.

Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) is delivering on this commitment through the Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market Program. Farmers’ markets continue to be the number one source for local food purchases in Alberta. Available in over 105 communities, farmers’ markets are widely known and frequently visited by consumers. The Alberta Approved Farmers’ Market Program provides an opportunity for rural diversification and economic development. Further success of this strategy can be indicated by Farm Cash Receipts and trade balances. To learn more about AF’s work in support of this strategy, click here.
