The 2009 AgriProfit$ Cropping Alternatives Methodology is available as a .pdf file.

Annually, the Economics Unit works directly with producers to stay informed of crop production costs and returns. The AgriProfit$ Business Analysis and Research Program collects information that is used to generate key cropping benchmarks for the major soil zones of Alberta. Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) protects producer information collected for this program.

The benchmark analysis forms the basis of the data used in forecasting the Cropping Alternatives budget reports. The budgets are projections of both commodities and inputs that are typically used in crop production. Please remember that these figures are “budget” amounts for typical Alberta farms within each soil zone. Therefore, use this as a guide rather than what costs “should” be. Producers will experience cost differences from Cropping Alternative budgets, so a blank budget form is available to fit individual farms.
