| All information shown here is based on freight rates published by the railways, and deductions for Canadian Wheat Board grains as approved by the federal government. This information can change without notice. Although it is updated from time to time, Alberta Agriculture, and Food assumes no liability for its accuracy.
Rates shown below are for single car shipments in hopper cars. However, almost all shipments move in blocks of several cars providing reductions to shippers. Some examples of savings available to Vancouver are shown on the attached table.
CN is converting its rates from per tonne rates to per car rates. For 2006/7 only non-CWB board rates are affected. For steel government hoppers CN assumes high density grains like rye weigh 90 tonnes per car, medium density grains like canola weigh 80 tonnes per car and low density grains like oats weigh 72 tonnes per car. Complete details on all rates are shown in the railway tariffs. Other sized cars have different tonnages.
