Purpose

Do you have a food product idea that you think has great market potential? The staff of the Food Science and Technology Centre can assist you in developing or improving that great idea. Our experienced specialists can develop product formulations, evaluate product quality or composition and conduct shelf-life studies.

The Product Development Laboratory is a well-equipped test kitchen with some pilot-scale capability. Equipment is available to evaluate color, texture, viscosity and product composition. This facility can be a valuable resource for converting that product concept into an actual prototype.

Our Analytical Laboratory has proven to be an essential component of many of our projects. Equipped with liquid and gas chromatographs, the lab can be used to detect and measure most important food constituents. Lab personnel have special expertise in sugar, vitamin E and essential oil analysis.



Located at the Crop Diversification Centre South in Brooks, the Food Science and Technology Centre staff often work closely with provincial horticulture, special crops and greenhouse specialists on projects linking field production to value-added processing. The Centre is also a convenient access point for individuals in southern Alberta who are interested in using the Leduc Food Processing Development Centre or other Food and Bio Processing Division services.
