Throughout Dobson Lea's lifetime of farming in the Jarvie area, he had taken leadership roles at the local, provincial, national and international levels. He had been President of Unifarm from 1970-77, President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, and an Executive Member of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers. He also had been a Director of the Alberta Pork Marketing Board, a member of the Advisory Committee of the Canadian Wheat Board and the Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization Advisory Committee. Mr. Lea strongly supported agricultural policies that strengthen the economic position of the family farm, and a firmly believed that farmland must be preserved so future generations can continue to enjoy the fruits of our land.
