Dr. Edwin Ballantyne's contribution to agriculture and veterinary medicine is outstanding. He introduced several cooperative animal health programs during the years he was Director of Veterinary Services for the Alberta Department of Agriculture. As a result of two of those programs, two diseases, Brucellosis and Rabies, were brought under control. As Deputy Minister of Alberta Agriculture (1965-71), he made several changes within the department so that producers in the province could be better served. From 1971-75 he was Deputy Minister for Alberta Environment, the first Department of Environment in Canada.
