Registration is still open for Ladies Livestock Lessons (LLL), the popular annual workshop hosted by the Red-Bow Agricultural Partnership, taking place January 19, 2019 in Airdrie. Andrea Hanson, livestock extension specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) and LLL presenter, looks at some of the topics covered at this year’s event.

LLL is designed for women involved in or interested in the profession of managing livestock. This year, topics and presenters include:

  • Advocacy and Social Media - Stina Nagel from the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association.
  • Resilience: How Succession Planning Builds Family Business - Maggie Van Camp from Loft 32 and BDO.
  • Teaching Youth about Agriculture – Don George from Classroom Agriculture Program.
  • Hybrid Vigor Scoring – Andrea Hanson with AF will present this breakout session.
  • Solar Waterer Care and Fencing - features a hands-on demonstration with Marvin Jackson from Sundog Solar.
  • Alberta Farm Animal Care 1010 – Kristen Hall with AFAC
  • The Truth and Consequences of Poisonous Pasture Plants in Alberta – Donna Lawrence with Alberta Environment and Parks.
Hanson adds that that the poisonous plants session is timely. “With our pastures being stressed these last few years, these poisonous plants in our pastures may be a concern this coming growing season.”

Register for the Ladies Livestock Lessons workshop January 19 at the Apple Creek Golf Course just outside of Airdrie. Deadline to register is January 14. For more information, contact Daniela at 403-335-3311, ext. 204.
