Good manufacturing practices (GMP) is a key component in the natural health products (NHP) sector and is the focus of a one-day workshop taking place Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Red Deer.

“The aim of this workshop is to provide the participants with understanding of good manufacturing practice,” explains Margurite Thiessen, value chain specialist with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF). “Complying with GMPs is a mandatory aspect in the NHP regulations and assures a high level of quality and confidence in your product.”

Adrian Rodriguez, the regulatory manager and senior consultant with NHP Consulting in Calgary is the workshop’s instructor. “He has experience working with companies in the natural health products sector, helping guide and support them through the process,” she adds.

Workshop attendees will:

  • Learn what it takes to develop and implement a GMP system.
  • Understand how to build an ongoing quality assurance program.
  • Learn how to ensure the quality of an NHP before and while it’s made available for sale.
  • Assess your readiness to undertake a site license and identify gaps for your company.
  • Locate various guidance documents and resources to move forward with GMPs.
  • Receive a workshop certificate of completion.
Thiessen says that the workshop will benefit a site licence holder or someone working toward a NHP product or site licence. “If you are involved in developing, implementing, maintaining or meeting the GMP within your NHP or related business, this workshop will also be of benefit.”

This workshop is organized by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and AF in collaboration with NHP Consulting.
