AgrivalueTM Processing Business Incubator (APBI)
Facility:
- A multi-tenant, Canadian Food Inspection Agency registered, newly constructed facility located in Leduc, Alberta, five minutes from the Edmonton International airport and two blocks from the major Calgary/Edmonton highway.
- 75,000 square foot building with 32,000 square feet of processing area comprised of seven privately accessed, fully serviced processing suites of differing sizes and configurations.
- Each suite is serviced with power (400amp/600volt), compressed air, steam and water (processing & clean-up). Suites range in size from 1700 to 5500 square feet. Many suites have private coolers/freezers, a separate wash-up area and a production office.
- A centralized cleaning and sanitation system will be available to all suites.
- Common areas include dry storage, cooler and frozen storage, washrooms, lunchrooms and welfare areas. Three receiving bays and two shipping bays support the full facility.
- Each tenant will have access to a private office in the administration area with standard furniture and a basic telecom package. A conference room with A/V capabilities is also available for tenant use.
Resources and Services:
- Incubator staff will be composed of a senior manager, food safety manager, shipping & receiving and administration.
- Fee based scientific, technical and maintenance/engineering support is available from the adjoining Food Processing Development Centre (FPDC).
- Tenants costs will include the lease contract, a service contract, an equipment lease (if appropriate) and utilities metered to each individual suite. Typical costs for the first year are expected to range from approximately $50,000 to $150,000 plus utilities depending on the size and design of the suite.
- Funding assistance through various industry development programs may be available based on client eligibility.
- Contracts will typically range from one year to three years.
- The APBI is part of a campus of services to assist new food processors scale-up and commercialize new products and processing technologies leading to successful establishment of their own facilities. This campus includes the incubator facility and professional scientific staff at the adjacent Food Processing Development Centre.
