| Conservation objectives
- To conserve the genetic diversity of chickens, emphasizing strains and breeds that contributed to past or present meat and egg stocks.
- To foster public understanding of the need to preserve germplasm.
- To make stocks available to other conservation programs.
- To use this diverse genetic pool in many different research programs.
Stocks
The original collection (1992) consisted of stocks from the University of Saskatchewan Rare Breed Program of Dr. R. D. Crawford. These include:
More recently, three stocks were added from the Agriculture Canada Research Centre in Ottawa. The recently acquired breeds include:
- 1957 Broiler Strain (unselected since 1957)
- 1977 Broiler Strain I (unselected since 1977)
- 1977 Broiler Strain II (unselected since 1977)
