The MPB ReLeaf Program began in 2010 and has been extremely well received. This program assists residents of Alberta with the cost of replacing trees lost to the MPB infestation on their private property:
- Residents who had individual trees killed by mountain pine beetle may apply for a rebate of $80 off the cost of a landscape tree.
- Private landowners who have shelterbelt trees or landscape trees around their yard killed by mountain pine beetle are able to apply for tree seedlings or potted trees up to a 5 gallon pot size, for a maximum amount of $3,000.
- Municipalities who have had trees killed by mountain pine beetle will be able to apply for trees for a maximum amount of $5000.
Funding cannot be used for the treatment of infested trees or protection of established trees.
TreeCanada administers the program. Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Strive Energy and TELUS are the corporate sponsors.
