Is Your New Venture Set Up Properly?

The following is a checklist to help guide you to the next step in the entrepreneurial process. Although this is not a comprehensive list, consider the following criteria involved in setting up your business
You have chosen and registered a name for your business and obtained an official business number
You have discussed taxation and building permits with the appropriate planning authority (ie. municipality, town, Canada Revenue)
You are aware of federal and provincial regulations which must be met if producing or marketing food products and have contacted your local regional health authority
You have contacted the building or planning authority in your municipality for information on the development permit process
You have reviewed your business structure options and have chosen one that is well suited to your new enterprise
You are aware of the local, provincial and federal taxes that apply to your new venture
The labels on your product have been double checked for accuracy, practicality, consumer appeal and compliance with federal guidelines
Your product has been packaged in a way that protects it from deterioration and contamination while still providing all necessary information on the packaging
As an employer, you have determined how many and what type of employees you require
As a supervisor, you understand how to promote high levels of performance from your workers
If you meet the criteria on this checklist then you have covered many key business considerations and have successfully navigated your way through the start up phase of your new business. Based on your business plan, your overall objectives and the success of your new venture you may be ready to start thinking about the Growth of your business.
