Are You Ready to Export?. The following is a checklist to help guide you to the next step in the entrepreneurial process. Although this is not a comprehensive list, consider the following criteria when assessing the export readiness of your business. |
You currently have a well established domestic market
You have sufficient personnel, resources, finances and a thorough business plan to meet increased demand
Your product or service can be modified to meet the needs of foreign markets and customers
You have researched competing foreign products and services and remain competitive in terms of price and quality
You have determined any tariffs or duties for your product in each target market
Transportation costs, packaging, labeling, and pricing have been factored into the feasibility of exporting your product or service
You and your business partner are equally committed to exporting
There is a strong demand for your product or service in your target country or region
You have obtained a business number from Canada Revenue Agency for import/export purposes
If you meet the criteria on this checklist then you have thoroughly assessed your business export readiness. Upon completing this assessment you may decide that your business is not ready for export or that is not advantageous to do so at this time. On the other hand, you may decide that looking to foreign markets may be a logical next step for your business. At any rate, you should now be Monitoring Your Business to assess present and future growth opportunities.
