1.Walk into the field 20-meters. Then walk a W-shaped pattern, looking at 20 plants at each of 5 locations. Each location should be at least 20-meters apart (See Figure 1).
2.Record the number of plants with stripe rust at each location.
3. Add the numbers from all five locations to get the total sum of all plants with stripe rust symptoms. For example:
  • Location 1 = 5 plants with SR
  • Location 2 = 12 plants with SR
  • Location 3 = 8 plants with SR
  • Location 4 = 7 plants with SR
  • Location 5 = 15 plants with SR
Total = 47%
