 Guidelines for the use of Research Greenhouse Bays - Effective 2013
The Client will submit a request form for the use of greenhouse research bays. The application will be reviewed by a review committee. A greenhouse space will be designated for the project.

Client has the following responsibilities:

  1. Ensure all employees accessing the designated area have the greenhouse safety and facility orientation training prior to access the greenhouse.
  2. Ensure all employees have Workers’ Compensation Board coverage.
  3. Ensure that all activities are within the scope of the project, as detailed in the project description.
  4. Clearly label the designed bay with project title, starting date, end date, project lead and contact information.
  5. Submit a request for review if an extension is necessary.
  6. Agree to comply with all of the Minister's and the greenhouse safety and security regulations.
  7. Project will start, be conducted and end according to the designated dates, laws, and regulations set by federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as the Greenhouse Research and Production Complex (GRPC) management; Any significant delay or change to the start and/or end dates may be subject to a penalty charge, or a cancellation of an on-going project or denial of a future proposal.
  8. Be responsible for material supplies (e.g., potting soils, special fertilizers, herbicide, plant growth regulators, etc.), equipment (e.g., specialized temperature or humidity sensors or hand meters, pH/EC meters, etc.), and labor (e.g., planting, harvesting, sampling, hand watering, preparing and clean-up potting materials, layout benches, etc).
  9. No greenhouse fixture should be modified in any way or at anytime unless by special permit issued by the GRPC management team.
  10. Report and manage any hazardous or dangerous experimental material (e.g., flammable, explosive, corrosive, radioactive, toxic, etc) including any plant pests and disease agents to be used in the greenhouse bays; provide detailed protocols and necessary protection measures for managing such material and clean-up measures at the end of the experiment from any incidence for potential contamination to the surroundings or pollution of the environment. The pest and disease manager at GRPC should be fully informed about such material delivery, storage, application and residue period. All sites containing or having been applied such material must be labeled with appropriate signs and marked with the restriction entry time.
  11. Be responsible for crop management; if extra technical assistance is required, a special request will go to the greenhouse manager. An extra charge may apply to such a service request.
  12. The project is responsible for preparing the experiment and cleaning-up the greenhouse they used.
  13. Ensure the project complies with the facility operation and safety manual, the CFIA standards and any related directions, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, the facility SOP’s/SWP’s and project SOPs.

Hours of Access – The Client shall have access to the designated area during the days and times specified in the application, and only access the designated area specified in the project application

Non-Compliance by an Individual Employee – if an employee fails to comply, the Minister will immediately terminate the employee’s access to the designated area by sending notice to the project lead. The employee shall immediately surrender his or her access card to the designated area to the Minister.

GRPC will be responsible for routine Argus settings including climate controls, irrigation and nutrient management, CO2 setting through Argus control system.

GRPC shall not be liable or responsible for any personal injury or property damage of any nature whatsoever that may be sustained by the Client.

Nature of Facility – This facility is a research and demonstration facility designed to assist with strengthening and expanding its capability to meet the demands of the marketplace through application of new technology and the development of new or improved crops. While every effort will be made to ensure that proper heat, light, power, and water are supplied for the purposes of the project, the Client acknowledges that the facility is being commissioned and that there are no warranties or guarantees that the facility will operate as expected.
