Fuel Tax Act and Regulation

Although responsibility for this legislation rests with the Minister of Finance and Enterprise, ARD assists with the administration of those aspects of it which relate to the Alberta Farm Fuel Benefit Program (AFFB).

Farmers who qualify for the AAFB benefits farmers receive a tax exemption on the cost of diesel gasoline. The gasoline sold under the AAFB is known as “purple gas” because of the colour marking employed to distinguish it from other fuel. Additionally, there may be tax exemptions on the cost of propane used for farming purposes.
