Mr. Platt gained international recognition in 1944 for his work in developing "rescue" wheat. A graduate from the University of Alberta in plant breeding and genetics, he also held an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree. He served on the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and on the Senate of the University of Calgary, and as the executive secretary of the United Farmers of Alberta Cooperative Limited.
