A steadfast promoter of the welfare of farmers, J.M. (Mickey) McKay played a key role in the development and administration of hail and crop insurance programs in Alberta. Acting first as the chairman of the board of directors of the Alberta Crop Insurance Corporation, and later as chairman and president of the Alberta Hail and Crop Insurance Corporation, he made a major contribution to the stabilization of the farming industry. He also contributed through his work in municipal administration, having served the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties in various capacities including president.
