| Overview
The Bow River Phosphorus Management Plan is a voluntary, collaborative, multi-stakeholder initiative to address point and non-point phosphorus loading in the Bow River from the Bearspaw to Bassano Dam. This video is an introduction to the Phosphorus Management Plan, outlining how, why and who was involved in developing and implementing the plan. It is the first in a series of 8 videos, which share stakeholders perspectives, challenges and approaches to phosphorus management.
Phosphorus and Irrigation Management
Maintaining good water quality is very important to an irrigation district and their clients. This video explains how phosphorus can impact the irrigation system and provides an overview of some of the actions that irrigation districts are taking to manage phosphorus, which helps to maintain and improve water quality in the Bow River Basin.
The Role of Stewardship Groups in Phosphorus Management
This video provides an overview of how watershed stewardships groups are helping to maintain and improve water quality in the Bow River Basin.
A Municipal Approach to Phosphorus Management
This video provides an overview how municipalities, such as Rockyview County, are working to manage rural and urban phosphorus loss to help maintain and improve water quality in the Bow River.
Water Quality Monitoring and Management
The key to managing phosphorus levels in the Bow River is the appropriate interpretation of the phosphorus data collected from river. This video discussing some of the challenges of monitoring phosphorus and why partnerships are crucial to making interpretation and implementation successful.
Managing Phosphorus Through Waste Water Treatment
Controlling phosphorus discharge from municipal wastewater is a key factor in addressing phosphorus loading in the Bow River. This video provides an overview of some of the actions the City of Calgary is taking at its’ waste water treatment plants to help maintain and improve water quality in the Bow River Basin.
Livestock Management to Address Phosphorus
This video provides an overview of some of the actions and practices that the livestock industry is adopting, that help maintain and improve water quality in the Bow River Basin.
Urban Stormwater Management
Stormwater runoff is created when rain falls on paved surfaces (such as roads, driveways, parking lots, rooftops), which do not allow water to soak into the ground. Stormwater runoff can transport phosphorus to the river. This video provides an overview of the role of low impact development and stormwater management practices have in maintaining and improving water quality in the Bow River.
