| One cow in Alberta tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in February 2015. This was the first confirmed BSE case in Alberta since 2011.
The cow was identified through the Canada-Alberta BSE surveillance program, and no part of the cow entered the food system. There are no implications for human health.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has completed their investigation, and the report is available on the CFIA website. Alberta Agriculture has provided support, and we are working with our industry partners to keep them informed.
