| Would you like to explore careers in Agriculture, or expose your students to ag careers? From traditional agriculture careers like farming, ranching or agronomy, to high-tech careers working with drones, biotechnology and data management, to professional careers in law, accounting, business, marketing, and environmental science, agriculture offers many opportunities. Here are some resources to help you.
AG Careers is an online job board for agriculture, food and biotechnology. While focused primarily for job seekers, Canadian students would find their extensive job profiles section interesting for exploring the diversity of agriculture careers. They also have a Canadian-specific career fairs section.
Alberta Learning Information Service (ALIS) has career planning tools, occupational information and education options that provides Alberta-specific career information.
Curio City: Where Science Matters: provides resources for students to explore issues from a science, technology, engineering & math (STEM) perspective. Their resources include career profiles, many of which are related to agriculture.
Green Certificate is dual-credit program that allows high school students to earn high school credits while gaining industry certifications and significant experience in a number of areas including beekeeping, cow-calf operations, dairy, equine, feedlot, field crop, irrigated crop, sheep and swine specializations.
Growing Careers is a website that provides a variety of agriculture career resources for students and teachers. The website has 75 career profiles and video interviews with ag professionals that are relevant across Canada.
Journey 2050 is a program and game that explores how we will sustainably feed over 9 billion people by the year 2050. This online game/app has a career exploration section where students build an avatar, and answer preference questions which results in a proposed agriculture career.
thinkAG Careers is a resource developed by the Government of Saskatchewan that includes career profiles for students to explore and lesson plans teachers can use to explore ag careers with their students. Agriculture for Life in Alberta offers thinkAG Careers Expos in cities across Alberta for high school students. |
