Industry Links and Other Resources
Agricultural events across the province offer educational opportunities for students and professional development for teachers. Below is a list of agriculture events. We have also included organizations that frequently organize ag education events. If you have an event you would like to add to our list, contact us at ag.education@gov.ab.ca.


Elementary Ag Education Events
  • Ag for Life. Agriculture for Life works to grow a better public understanding of the role of agriculture in Alberta’s culture and economy. They develop, expand and offer curriculum-based educational programming and offer educational events for students and teachers.
  • Amazing Agriculture is a free educational experience produced by Northlands that is designed to teach Grade Four students about our province's vibrant agriculture industry. Through interactive learning stations, students will develop new awareness and understanding of where their food comes from and how it is produced.
  • Association of Alberta Agriculture Societies has links to ag societies across the province and a list of upcoming events.
  • Calgary Stampede Aggie Days. Calgary Stampede hosts Aggie Days each spring with educational activities and exhibits for elementary students.
  • Canadian Agriculture Literacy Week occurs each year in early March. Agriculture comes alive in Canadian classrooms as students participate in activities to learn about, connect to and understand this important industry. Events and resources are available to support teachers who want their students to understand how food gets from the farm to their plate.
  • City Slickers Harvest is hosted by the Stony Plain Multicultural Heritage Centre and Ag for Life each September in Stony Plain. Over a thousand Grade 4 and 5 students participate each year, learning about agriculture by experiencing first-hand what it’s like to be on a working farm. There are also several lesson plans for Grade 4 that are related to what students learn at City Slickers Harvest.
  • UFA Aggie Days at Lethbridge Exhibition Park UFA Aggie Days in Lethbridge is held each spring with educational activities and exhibits for elementary students.
Secondary Ag Education Events
  • Ag for Life Agriculture for Life works to grow a better public understanding of the role of agriculture in Alberta’s culture and economy. They develop, expand and offer curriculum-based educational programming and offer educational events for students and teachers.

Other
  • The Rural Education Symposium is held each March in Banff. The symposium offers rural educators the chance to explore the social, political, and economic supports, practices and policies that create vibrant, sustainable schools and communities throughout rural Alberta.
