The Age-Verification Incentive Program is intended to encourage the Alberta Cattle Industry to adopt tagging and age-verification best practices, including applying radio frequency identification (RFID) ear tags and entering birthdates in the CCIA Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS).
Greater participation in age-verification will help Alberta’s industry respond to market requirements, improve animal disease investigation and response, and is a vital part of Canada and Alberta’s BSE Surveillance Program that supports food safety and market access.
How does the Age-Verification Incentive Program work?
The Age-Verification Incentive Program provides of a convenient “point-of-sale” discount of up to $3.00 per tag on RFID tags purchased at a participating Tag Dealer location.
In 2012, the maximum number of tags a producer is eligible to receive an incentive-discount on is based on the number of calves a producer has, or intends to have, age-verified in 2009, 2010 and 2011 (less any previous incentive-discounts claimed under the program).
Example One: If a producer had 200 calves in the 2009 calving season (that were age-verified), 225 calves in the 2010 calving season (that were age-verified) and 175 calves in the 2011 calving season (that have or will be age-verified), then the producer is eligible for an incentive-discount on up to 600 RFID tags in 2012. The producer did not claim a previous incentive-discount under the program.
