Program Details

On June 5, 2008 the Alberta Government announced $300 million in disaster funding which will be distributed in two installments. These funds are part of Alberta’s ongoing support to assist the livestock industry while The Alberta Livestock and Meat Strategy comes into effect.

The first payment (which is approximately $150 million) will be dispersed immediately and is based on the producer’s 2006 livestock information. The second payment will be issued commencing January 2009, only after verification of producer and industry compliance with the long-term age verification and premises identification objectives of The Alberta Livestock and Meat Strategy.

To be eligible for an AFRP II payment, you must have been actively farming in Alberta in 2006 and 2007, and have livestock production in 2006.

All eligible 2006 CAIS program and AFRP participants will be automatically processed under AFRP II. Only Alberta producers that did not participate in these programs need to complete and submit the application form (provided in the link below) before the December 31, 2008 deadline.

Please note that acceptance into AFRP II does not grant acceptance into either the CAIS program or AFRP, the eligibility deadlines have passed for both.

The AFRP II benefit calculation is based on a feed proxy, using the producer’s 2006 livestock information. Specifically,

Calves, Feeder Cattle, & Feeder Hogs will have this proxy applied to weight gain
All other livestock, including breeding animals for cattle and hogs, will have this proxy applied to the average of the opening and closing inventory for 2006

The Application is available on-line at the AFSC website. Please contact AFSC toll-free at 1-877-744-7900 if you have questions on AFRP II.

If you need information on The Alberta Livestock and Meat Strategy, including age verification and premises identification, please contact AgInfo Centre toll-free at 310-FARM (3276).
