Program Details

Recognizing that wildfire costs can be extremely prohibitive, the Minister Alberta Environment and Parks, in cooperation with the Agriculture and Forestry (AF), developed a wildfire cost assessment review process.

Under this process, the Farmers' Advocate Office (FAO) conducts an investigation and chairs a 3-person Wildfire Cost Assessment Committee. The Minister of AF and the Minister of AEP appoint the other 2 members of the panel. If, in the opinion of the committee, paying the AEP invoice would cause undue financial hardship, they may make recommendation to the Minister of AEP to forgive a portion or all of the wildfire costs. The panel may also recommend the invoiced amount remains as originally billed.

The Wildfire Cost Assessment Committee cannot determine if the billing was justified or advocate for an individual other than on the basis of ability to pay or financial hardship. Please contact the FAO for more information.
