Program Details

The Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund Ltd. (ACIDF) is a private not-for-profit company owned by organizations in Alberta's crop industry. We invest in research, development and pre-commercialization projects and activities to the benefit of producers and industry in the province. Supported primarily by Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, the company manages five investment initiatives. Our portfolio ranges from basic sciences through to support for product development and manufacturing process. The major portion of investment is targeted at production issues and applied sciences with strong emphasis on applied technology that benefit agricultural crop producers.

ACIDF is currently fully committed and does not have funding available. Please check with the ACIDF website for current information.

Grant Priority and Preferences
The ACIDF is interested in innovation and creativity. We will consider a wide range of projects, and will work closely with our sponsor organizations to ensure the greatest benefit to our primary beneficiary, the Alberta farmers.

Priority
Industry development projects with strong market focus, that increase the competitiveness of Alberta farmers through such avenues as leadership, research, innovation, training and marketing initiatives.

Current Areas of Interest
Depending on available funding, ACIDF manages a number of initiatives, each with their own priorities and limitations. Investments made under each initiative will be decided on relative merit, perceived fit with objectives, and quality of proposal. Keep in mind that each supported project must support the ACIDF business deliverables for that initiative. Availability of funds within these initiatives has a great impact on projects selected for support.
The investment strategy for each separate initiative is available through the "Application" pull-down menu at the top of the ACIDF website.

Proposals from both the Agriculture Funding Consortium call, and those received outside of a formal call, will be considered for all initiatives.

Preference:
Projects located within the province, or directly associated with expanding Alberta's market opportunities.

Size:
A mix of large and small projects, especially in areas not receiving adequate attention and support from other funding sources. ACIDF grants typically range from $10,000 to $200,000 over the life of the project. Grants will be awarded competitively, judged on individual merit, and under the guidance of the signatory organizations.

The following criteria will also be used to evaluate the Pre-Proposals:

  • Meet the priorities of the individual funding agency
  • Meet the priorities of the agricultural industry
  • Benefit the Alberta Agriculture industry
  • Advance knowledge in agriculture and agriculture food
  • Rely on collaboration with researchers
  • Industry Endorsement
Closing dates for specific initiatives will vary depending on limitations for the initiative and availability of investment funds.
