This manual outlines the legislation and procedures that are to be followed by persons who farm white-tailed deer and mule deer (deer), elk or moose in Alberta. Wildlife is an important resource in Alberta. Legislation has been enacted to regulate the game farming industry to address concerns about the potential hazards game farming poses to Alberta's wildlife populations. Compliance with that legislation will ensure that game farming will grow and develop with minimal risk to Alberta's wildlife resource.

This manual is neither a legal document nor a complete explanation of the current Livestock Industry Diversification Act (LIDA) or the Wildlife Act. It is published to assist licensed game farmers to understand the policies, rules and regulations respecting the game farm industry in Alberta.

Specific details concerning the regulations as they apply to game farming in Alberta may be obtained by contacting the Diversified Livestock Unit, Animal Industry, AAFRD or the nearest Natural Resources Service office for imports and exports of live animals, velvet antler and processed velvet antler products.
