Call of the Land is a five day-a-week, 9-minute agricultural radio program produced by Alberta Agriculture. This information and extension program is aired on 27 Alberta radio stations. For over 50 years Call of the Land has broadcast during the noon hour to a province wide network of stations. It now reaches a daily audience of over 110,000. Aimed at rural Albertans, stories keep the agricultural community current on the latest agricultural technologies, research findings, production methods and marketing trends, as well as government programs and policies. Today is the nomination deadline for the Alberta region of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ Program. Call Sharon at 780-674-6713 or go to www.oyfalberta.com.
Alberta Beef Producers Fall Producer Meetings continue this week. There are three meetings tonight—7 p.m. at the Longview Community Hall, 7 p.m. at the High Prairie Legion, which is preceded by a free dinner at 6:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. at the Spruce View cCommunity Hall, preceded by a free supper at 6 p.m. And there is one meeting on Friday, that’s at 7 p.m. the Vauxhall Legion. Meetings wrap up next week in four locations—Monday at 7 p.m. at the Strathmore Golf and Country Club and the Hughenden Community Hall, Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Westlock Memorial Hall (which is preceded by a free supper at 6 p.m.), and Thursday, November 12 at 7 p.m. at the Cochrane Ranchehouse. The theme of this year’s Alberta Pork Regional Information Meetings is “Recovery of the Alberta Pork Industry.” Meetings are as follows: November 9 at the Grande Prairie Inn, the 10th at the Lakeview Inn & Suites in Fort Saskatchewan, the 12th at the Lethbridge Lodge, and the 13th at the Holiday Inn in Red Deer. Farm Credit Canada is hosting four Let’s Talk About Agriculture and the Economy sessions this month, looking at such tings as the link between commodity markets, energy markets, and the Canadian dollar. Speaker J.P. Gervais will give his outlook for the Canadian economy and the impact on agriculture. Meetings are being held at the following locations—November 23 at the Saskatoon Lake Hall at Wembley, the 24th at the Dunvegan Inn in Fairview, the 25th at the Hawk Hills Community Centre, and also on the 25th at the Knights of Columbus hall in Falher.
