The Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) has announced that Gary Stanford was voted chair and Hannah Konschuh was voted as vice-chair of its board of directors. The election took place on January 30, 2019 following AWC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at FarmTech in Edmonton.

Stanford, who farms near Magrath, Alberta, replaces Kevin Bender who termed out from AWC’s board of directors as of the AGM. Stanford has served on AWC’s board since its inception in 2012 and will term out a year from now.

“I’ve taken great pride in helping grow AWC into a highly productive organization that puts farmers first,” says Stanford. “I’m honoured that my fellow board members put their confidence in me to lead the way in my final year on the board. “I have sincere gratitude to Kevin Bender for his commitment to this organization and will work hard to deliver results as he did.”

Konschuh represents region 2 and has served on AWC’s board since January 2017. She farms near Cluny, Alberta.

“I’m honoured to step into this new leadership role with AWC,” said Konschuh. “Serving Alberta’s farmers in this capacity is something I’ve been working toward and I look forward to doing my part to help grow farmer profitability.”

AWC’s AGM also marked the beginning of Jason Lenz and Janine Paly’s directorship, and marked the conclusion of Kevin Bender and Terry Young’s terms. Lenz replaces Terry Young as region 3 director joining Trevor Petersen, and Paly will serve as director-at-large, replacing Kevin Bender. Both Bender and Young will step into regional representative roles in region 3, joining Kent Erickson.

“Serving on AWC’s board, and especially as chair, has been something that I’ve been extremely proud to take on,” says Bender. “Looking ahead I’m confident that the board remains in excellent hands under Gary Stanford’s leadership and I look forward to seeing AWC continue to build momentum. I’d like to thank Terry Young for his service to farmers, starting with AWC’s inception in 2012. Both Terry and I are looking forward to continuing our service as AWC regional representatives.”
