Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) is hosting an Agri-Food Processing Lenders’ Conference at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Nisku on October 18-19, 2017.

“The conference will have learning and networking opportunities for both lenders and agri-food processors,” says Lisa Iwanyk, development officer, AF. “Lenders will be able to learn more about the agri-processing industry and the challenges and opportunities it faces. Agri-processors will get a better understanding of what their lenders are looking for and how to be better prepared for discussions about getting financing for their businesses.

“The ability for agri-food processors to obtain financing is very important to its growth, so this event is an attempt to help both sides collaborate and better understand one another.”

Conference topics and highlights include:

  • credit risk assessments in the food processing industry
  • tour of the food processing development centre and agrivalue processing business incubator
  • a new case study challenge for this year
  • food safety requirements in agri-food processing
  • marketing challenges in agri-food processing
  • guest speakers from the agri-food processing industry
  • helping to close the deal - other funding sources
  • challenges and successes of a food distributor
  • networking reception with agri-processors
“While the conference is being organized by AF, insight and direction is from members of the Alberta financial community and representatives of the food processing industry,” says Iwanyk.
