Green Certificate Poultry Specialization

 Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF)’s new Green Certificate poultry specialization is now accepting trainee registrations.

“AF works in partnership with the agriculture industry and Alberta Education to offer the Green Certificate program to all Albertans,” says Scott Dundas, manager of workforce development, AF. “Trainees select a specialization and, under the guidance of their trainer, work towards mastering all of the skills within their training program.”

Students in the new poultry specialization can receive training in four production areas - turkey, broiler chicken, table egg and broiler hatching egg.

“This long-awaited specialization is a culmination of work among the poultry industry, Dr. Frank Robinson of the University of Alberta and AF,” says Dundas. “We could not have accomplished the completion of the poultry specialization without the continued support and encouragement of industry.”

The addition of the poultry specialization brings the Green Certificate program to a total of 11 high school apprenticeship-style training streams. “The new specialization, and the recent announcement by Minister Eggen, Alberta Education, for four years of funding for Green Certificate that removes the cost to students to participate in the program, makes this an exciting year.”
