Livestock Gentec and the Lacombe Research Centre are co-hosting a field day on August 22nd, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Lacombe Research Centre. This year, the focus is on better understanding the interactions among cows, forage, and genomics and on optimizing cow/forage production.

On-pasture demonstrations will include:
  • multi-site legume tour
  • high and low-vigour cows and heifers
  • advances in cow over-wintering
  • carbon sequestration
  • methane measurement in livestock production
Over lunch, Dr. Charlie Brummer of University of California, Davis, will discuss how DNA technology is being used to develop forages with shorter dormancy periods, enabling them to better deliver late-season growth and/or regrowth in northern climates with major variation in day length, and where winter hardiness is a must. A short question-and-answer session will follow.
