Sub soil moisture entering the winter is rated 22% poor/ 33% fair/ 32% good/ 13% excellent. Additional precipitation prior to freeze up would be welcomed across much of the south, central and north central portions of the province.

Lethbridge Region (South)
Harvest is virtually completed with a small amount of clean up outstanding in the NW portion of the region. Subsoil moisture is rated 43% poor/ 23% fair/ 26% good/ 8% excellent. Soil moisture is low across most areas of the south with the exception of the NW corner, south and east of Calgary. 65% of fall seeded crops are rated in good/excellent condition with the remainder rated fair.

Red Deer Region (Central)
Harvest is estimated at 95% complete. Some crop remains unharvested in the south portion of the region, NE & NW of Calgary. Subsoil moisture is rated 21% poor/ 28% fair/ 27% good/ 23% excellent/ 1% excessive. Soil moisture is generally good to excellent in the west, fair in the central and poor to fair in the eastern portion of the region. Fall seeded crops are rated in fair to good condition.

Camrose Region (East Portion)
Harvest is virtually complete with a few small pockets remaining to be cleaned up. Subsoil moisture is rated 16% poor/ 54% fair/ 28% good/ 2% excellent. Precipitation prior to freeze up would be welcomed in all areas. Fall seeded crops are rated in fair to good condition.

Camrose Region (West Portion)
Harvest is virtually completed. Subsoil moisture is rated 28% poor/ 42% fair/ 27% good/ 3% excellent. Soil moisture availability could become a concern next year depending on the quantity of winter snowfall and spring precipitation received.

Fairview Region (Peace River Block)
Favourable weather has allowed for substantial harvest progress over the past 2 week period. Cereal harvest is close to completed but approximately 10% of the canola crop remains unharvested as the crop is slow to cure with high green seed content reported. Crop grades have suffered due to late spring seeding and poor early harvest conditions. It is estimated that approximately 25% of the spring wheat will grade Canada Feed, 15 – 20% of the canola will grade Sample, and 55% of the field peas will be of Feed quality.

Subsoil moisture is rated 0% poor/ 18% fair/ 55% good/ 16% excellent/ 1% excessive. Fall seeded crops are rated in good condition.
