Looking Ahead in World Food and Agriculture - Perspectives to 2050 - 2011 (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )
From the Introduction by Piero Conforti, "The last few years have witnessed a revamping of the debate on the relations among agriculture, natural resources, population growth and economic development. Various events, taking place within a short time span, have driven such renewed interest. Weather variability has seemed to accelerate, deeply affecting agricultural production around the world. Food and energy prices have shown large swings, while the biofuel industry has been expanding rapidly in some countries. Financial investment in agricultural commodity-based derivatives has grown at a fast pace, while large international investments in land, especially targeting developing countries, have gained the newspaper headlines".
- World Livestock 2011 - Livestock in Food Security (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )
From the Abstract, "Although much has been said about livestock’s role in achieving food security, in reality, the subject has been only partially addressed and no current document fully covers the topic. Recognizing that food security is central to international development – and to the mandate of FAO - this report tells the story of livestock and food security from three perspectives".
- FA0 Food Outlook - Global Market Analysis - Nov-2011 (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations )
In spite of improved supply prospects and weakening demand, agricultural commodity
market conditions remain fairly tight, which is the major factor underpinning prices.
Production forecasts for nearly all key food crops in 2011 have risen steadily since the
previous report in June.
- Genetically Modified Foods (pdf) – Jul-2011
A new Codex agreement means that any country that wants to bring in new food labels that would identify GM ingredients will no longer face problems with international free trade laws or be subjected a legal challenge in front of the World Trade Organization.

OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook 2011-2020 - 2011 (Jun-2011) (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development)
This report assesses agricultural market trends and prospects for production, consumption, trade, stocks, and prices of featured commodities, including biofuels. This year’s edition includes a special section on price volatility and price transmission from world to domestic markets, analysing the evidence of and changes in price volatility over the longer term and summarising FAO and OECD policy advice.
- OECD Food Prices - Jun-2011 (OECD)
Food prices are literally a matter of life and death, especially for the poorest of the poor, who already spend anywhere from 80% to 90% of their income on food. For them, a small increase in the price of bread or rice means the family goes hungry. Global food prices rose sharply in 2007-2008 and have remained high since. While prices are expected to ease somewhat, they will still average 20-30% higher in the next decade than over the past 10 years. http://www.oecd.org/document/25/0,3746,en_2649_201185_48208217_1_1_1_1,00.html

- Changing Patterns of Trade in Processed Agricultural Products - Jun-2011 (OECD)
Trade in processed products, such as chocolates, steaks or wines, is dominated by high income OECD countries, although it is slowing down between these countries while growing very fast between emerging economies. Low income countries, however, account for a small share of such trade. Countries with a revealed comparative advantage in the processed agricultural markets are mostly high income countries and capture the majority of the trade, while many low income countries have a comparative advantage for other agricultural products. http://www.oecd-ilibrary.org/agriculture-and-food/changing-patterns-of-trade-in-processed-agricultural-products_5kgc3mq19s6d-en
- Consolidation in Private-label - Jun-2011 (Rabobank Group)
Private label is expected to double its market share to 50 percent by 2025. Not only will this growth change the appearance of retailers’ shelves, but it will also cause gradual changes in the competitive landscape for suppliers. The smaller B-brand suppliers in particular will face increased competitive pressure.
- Regional Trade Agreements - Treatment of Agriculture - May-2011 (OECD)
This study develops earlier OECD work on the treatment of agriculture in regional trade agreements for Latin America by extending the geographic coverage to Asia-Pacific and selected agreements in Africa. It covers over 50 regional trade agreements with respect to market access, subsidies, trade remedies, and requirements relating to sanitary & phytosanitary measures (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT).
