Biodiesel has been produced for the German market since 1999. The production and use of biodiesel was facilitated firstly through the agricultural policy of subsidizing the cultivation of non-food crops and the exemption for biodiesel from the mineral oil tax, which gave it a slight pump price advantage over regular diesel. Tesco CEO Signals Support for GM Products (pdf) - 2009/02

Researchers Claim Purple Tomato Demonstrates GMO’s Potential to Enhance Human Health (pdf) – 2008/12
Researchers at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, United Kingdom worked with scientists from Italy, Germany and The Netherlands to insert and activate two genes from the snapdragon plant into normal tomato plants, and to add promoter sections of DNA that give high levels of anthocyanins, antioxidants found in red, blue, and purple fruit. France Fined for Delaying Implementation of EU Rules on Genetically Modified Crops (pdf) – 2008/12
On December 9, 2008 the European Court of Justice ordered France to pay a €10 million ($12.9 million) fine for failing to abide by EU law concerning use of genetically modified food. The fine was levied after France failed to comply with a 2004 ruling by the Court requiring France to implement EU rules in its national legislation. Read more ...

Chinese lawmakers passed new food-safety legislation on Feb.28, 2009. It is intended to tighten supervision of manufacturers and impose tougher penalties on those who make bad products. The government seeks to restore public confidence after several scandals of tainted food.
