Mexican Airlines to Suspend Edmonton Flights - 2009/10
After months of being affected by the H1N1 pandemic and then the Canadian Visa requirement for Mexicans, Mexicana airlines has advised that it will suspend the Edmonton – Mexico City flight, effective January 14th, 2010. Once close monitoring of the Edmonton to Calgary traffic for the direct flight into Mexico City, there is hope to reestablish the flight around June of 2010. In the interim, effective January 15th they will increase Calgary’s service to Mexico City to 5 times a week to include Saturdays.
Interesting statistics regarding Mexicana de Aviación and its load factors in Alberta.
-Average load factors for the Calgary flight in 2008 were 74%, dropping to 61% in 2009.
-Average load factors for the EDM flight in 2009 were 51%.
-This month of October alone, Calgary has averaged 54% and Edmonton, 40%.
Visa Application Centres - 2009/10
In an effort to make the visa process more convenient for Mexicans, the Embassy of Canada in Mexico has inaugurated in Mexico City the first of three Visa Application Centres (VACs). The other two centres (VACs) will open on November 24th in Monterrey, Nuevo León and in Guadalajara on January 14th, 2010.
