Title:
AGRASID Version 3.0 Polygon Attribute Table
Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: Vector and tablular digital data.
Description:
Abstract:
AG30 is the polygon attribute file (PAT) accompanying AGRASID Version 3.0.  It is a modified version of the original AGRASID.PAT (Version 1.0). The principal difference of Version 3.0 from Version 1.0 is the removal of the township grid from the graphic layer. The implication of this modification is that the number of polygons described in the database files are reduced from approximately 65,000 to 28,000. This means that the derivation of value-added products from AGRASID is expedited. Other modifications include the correction of some identified errors in the database. Also the boundaries and descriptions of some Land System boundaries have been modified.

With the reduction of the number of AGRASID Version 3.0 soil lanscape polygons, there now exists a one to one relationship between the soil landscape polygons and the soil landscape attribute information. As a result the soil lanscape attributes are no longer stored in a separate file as was the case in AGRASID Version 1.0. The soil landscape attribute information is now stored in AG30 polygon attribute table. For this reason there is no longer a separate soil landscape table present in AGRASID Version 3.0.

The user may also notice that the outside boundaries of AGRASID Version 3.0 do not exactly match the forty-ninth and sixtieth parallels of latitude and the one hundred and tenth, and one hundred and twentieth meridians of longitude.  The reason is that AGRASID was originally compiled on the Alberta township grid system, as found in the province's 1:20,000 scale base map. This means that AGRASID Version 3.0 will not necessarily follow the federal or provincial boundaries of the province.

Purpose:
Updates the 1:100 000 digital soils database called AGRASID version 1.0. Provides linkages to the spatial data comprising AGRASID Version 3.0  as well as descibing the pertinent soil landscape attributes associated with each soil landscape polygon. Provides the linkage to the basic soil evidence file. AG30MAS.

Attribute:
Attribute_Label: HECTARES: Area of Polygon (hectares)
Attribute:
Attribute_Label: SCA: Soil correlation area number. The province is subdivided into 23 areas based upon climate, which in turn determine soil development, vegetation, soil use and management (Alberta SNF Group 1993).
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LMOD: Landscape model modifier (Table 3 in the User's Manual )
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LMODEL: Landscape model (Table 2 in the User's Manual)
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:MUNAME: Generated soil symbol based upon the soil data collected and documented
by the soil mapper. For explanation of the concepts and symbol refer toSection 2.0 of the Procedures Manual.
Attribute:
        Attribute_Label: ECODIST: Concatenation of ECO_REG and ECO_DIST
Attribute:
        Attribute_Label:ECO_REG: Ecoregion code.
Attribute:
        Attribute_Label:ECO_DIST: Ecodistrict code.
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:NSLC2000: New Soil Landscape of Canada (SLC) number created in June, 2000.  Reference SLC Alberta Phase 1 White Zone, June 2000 - available from C&D.  There are some AGRASID Version 3.0 soil landscape records which will have an unspecified NSLC2000 number.  These soil lanscapes are associated with anthropogenic features (e.g. cities) or boarder the non - agricultural (green) area of Alberta. Completion of SLC updates in the non - agricultural (green) area of Alberta may eventually eliminate this situation.
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LSYS_NO: Land system number. Unique number identifying each land system within an Ecodistrict.
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LS_COMP:Alpha Numeric Code given to non-contiguous components of a land system that may otherwise be considered collectively as a single land system.  For e.g., a land system may be separated by a major river into 2 components: A & B.
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LS_SYM:Land System symbol. This field is a unique identifier for each land system. It is a concatenation of [ECO_REG]+[ECO_DIST]+[LSYS_NO]+[LS_COMP]. The presence of this foreign key makes the linkage between the AG30 polygon attribute table and the AG30LSLG.
Attribute:
Attribute_Label:LSLGDSYM: Land System Legend Symbol. LSLGSYM is a concatenation of [ECO_REG]+[ECO_DIST]+[LSYS_NO]. This field is the foreign key that makes the link possible to all the descriptive (non-spatial) information concerning a Land System. LSLGDSYM is the link field to the LS_LEGND.DBF.
