Food Safety Information
Food Safety Programs work toward achieving the following goals:
- protecting human health by reducing exposure to hazards
- increasing consumer confidence in the safety and quality of food produced in Canada
- increasing industry’s ability to meet or exceed market requirements for food safety and food quality
- providing value-added opportunities through the adoption of food safety and quality systems

 | Agriculture and Food collaborates with federal departments and agencies such as Health Canada, The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Canadian Grain Commission, other provincial governments, industry and non-governmental organizations. Programs are built on policy and program development and research with these key partners.
Federal and provincial governments work with farmers and industry, to support the development of national, integrated food safety, traceability and food quality systems throughout the agri-food chain, from farm to fork. At the same time, they are sharing critical information and undertaking new measures to enable the traceability of food products to improve food quality. Such cooperation increases the ability to identify and respond to food safety issues and consumer demands, and improve market access and opportunities.
