| | This calculator will provide hog producers with an estimate for cost of rendering, based on herd size, as well as optional weight and performance parameters.
Prior to the BSE case, dead animals were picked up from producers free of charge, once the pick-up site was established. Now, due to the uncertainty regarding feed regulations and the world market, renderers no longer have an income from product sale. Therefore, rendering companies are now charging for pick-ups. Currently, dead animal pick-up costs on average a minimum of $25.00, or 11 cents per kilogram (5 cents per pound).
With this calculator, you can estimate potential costs of rendering for your production unit. All fields come up with default numbers, which can be changed according to the size and type of your operation; herd size is the only field, which must be entered for calculations.
