Recommendation: Developed by N. Holland, Sheyenne Gardens, North Dakota. Recommended in Brooks and Red Deer and highly recommended in Calgary - only two very good plants survived in Red Deer. Plants failed in Fairview, Edmonton and Coaldale.

Form:
upright shrub, smaller lilac.
Features:
green foliage and single pink flowers with spicy fragrance.
Culture:
foundation planting, hedge or specimen shrub.

Dwarf Korean Lilac

Recommendation: recommended at all locations, some tipkill at Grande Prairie most winters, usually does not set seed so dead flower stalks resemble tipkill.
Trial Average:
Height: 100 cm; Spread: 130 cm
Form:
uniform, dense, compact, rounded shrub, clean and neat branching.
Features:
small, dark green leaves, red-purple buds open to pale pink flowers which are early and profuse.
Culture:
adapts to many soil types, low maintenance, young plants will flower.

Golden Eclipse Tree Lilac (PPAF)

Recommendation: planted in trial in 2007.
Trial Average: Height: ---; Spread: ---
Form: upright compact tree.
Features: golden yellow and green variegated foliage. Creamy white fragrant flowers in late spring, early summer.
Culture: full sun, good specimen.

Syringa reticulata 'Ivory Silk'
Ivory Silk Lilac


Recommendation: recommended in Edmonton, Bowden, and Red Deer, not recommended in Calgary, not tested in Brooks or Coaldale, winterkilled to ground in some years.
Trial Average:
Height: 236 cm; Spread: 91.5 cm
Form:
columnar shrub.
Features:
green leaves, white flowers with very strong fragrance, blooms after all others are spent.
Culture:
rootstock suckering is a problem, will tipkill or dieback during cold winters.

Culture:
