In the fall of 2009 Farmers’ Advocate Office embarked on a series of energy information sessions. This energy information project is intended to provide a broader understanding of the life cycle of energy development and assist landowners with taking a proactive approach to managing risk surrounding energy development.

This project is supported under the Growing Forward initative which is a commitment from Canada’s Federal, Provincial and Territorial Minister’s of Agriculture.

Locations were determined as areas that Farmers’Advocate has not had recent presentations or where we felt we could provide useful information to a wide variety of producer groups.

The series includes two separate sessions.

Session 101 Balancing the Approach to Oil and Gas Development provides a comprehensive overview of the energy life cycle. Everything from ownership, rights, seismic, survey, negotiation strategy, roles of agencies, mitigating impacts and the final stage of the energy life cycle will be reviewed. Participants will leave this session with a broader understanding of how they can find a balanced approach to mitigating impacts and managing their ongoing relationships with industry.

Session 201 Mitigating Risk of Oil and Gas Development is intended for those who wish to create specific plans related to their land base. Participants will be provided with maps of their property and other resources to assist in pre-planning for energy activity. The Energy Resources Conservation Board, Environment and the Surface Rights Board will present at this session.

Pre-registration for the 201 session is mandatory. Participants will be required to submit their land locations to the Farmers’ Advocate office 10 business days prior to the start date to accommodate mapping.

Farmers’ Advocate Office is prepared to hold a session in your area upon request. Please contact
Carol Goodfellow @ 780-427-2350 for additional information.
