The primary focus of the Soil Phosphorus Limits Project was to determine environmental soil phosphorus limits for agricultural lands in Alberta that would protect surface water quality; however, soil and water nitrogen data were also collected.

As part of the AESAAW initiative, the nitrogen data from 8 provincial microwatersheds were summarized in 2008 to determine the relationship between soil nitrogen and nitrogen in runoff from agricultural land.
