The deadline for online feedback submissions has passed. The Steering Group thanks you for your input.
April 14/08 - Please click here to view the CI Steering Group's 26 draft recommendations to enhance the competitiveness of Alberta's agri-food industry.
The Competiveness Initiative Steering Group forwarded a letter to Minister Groeneveld in November with some items for his immediate consideration. This letter, as well as a response letter from the Minister are posted below.
Overview of the Competitiveness Initiative
The Competitiveness Initiative (CI) is one way Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development is moving from what we know about the current state of our province’s agri-food industry, to what needs to happen to enhance its long-term competitiveness. This is being accomplished in three phases:
Phase one
May to December 2007 – The CI Steering Group, who represents a diverse range of agri-food sectors and the government, has:
- Met with industry and other experts to assess challenges, opportunities, and solutions
- Synthesized complex competitiveness information
- Thought critically and strategically about the fundamental changes impacting the global agriculture and food industry
- Developed draft recommendations, in the form of a report, that identify competitiveness opportunities.
Phase two
January and February 2008 – Business operators, associations, commissions, boards, agencies, and others are invited to provide feedback on the Steering Group’s draft report at meetings, by written submission (letters), or online. More details on how to submit feedback will be available on the CI webpage in late December 2007 or early January 2008.
Phase three
March to May 2008 – The Steering Group will consider the feedback received from industry and develop final recommendations. At the end of May 2008, a report, consisting of recommendations that will have the most impact on enhancing the long-term competitiveness of Alberta’s agri-food industry, will be presented to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
As we continue in the Departments tradition of meeting challenges head-on, the CI is transforming knowledge into action. To follow the progress of the CI, please continue to visit this website.
