Getting Started
The Employment Directory is a new, free online tool designed especially for agricultural employers and job seekers.
Posting a job or profile is easy. Once you have reached www.agriculture.alberta.ca/GCED, all you have to do is click on 'post listing' (on the left hand side of the screen). This will take you to a simple, step-by-step form. If this Getting Started Guide does not answer your question, help is as close as calling (780) 968-3551, or e-mailing to GCED@gov.ab.ca.

1. What sort of training do Green Certificate program trainees and graduates have?
The Green Certificate program is delivered as apprenticeship-style training. This means that the trainees learn actively by performing the skills required. Trainees work along-side of a trainer who is knowledgeable and vested in the trainee's success. There are currently eight specialties with a ninth, equine, being added for 2009.

Green Certificate graduates have completed a wide variety of hands-on skills in order to receive their certificate. Click on the specializations below to find out more about the types of skills trainees develop:

3. What are the benefits to employers to post jobs in this directory?
Your job will be viewed by potential employees who are interested in agriculture. This free service is available to all Green Certificate program trainees and graduates, as well as all others interested in agricultural employment.

4. What are the benefits to job-seekers to post a profile in this directory?
Your profile will be available for all potential employers to view. This free service is available to all Green Certificate program trainees and graduates as well as all others interested in agricultural employment. Your personal information will only be available to Green Certificate program staff. All interest in your profile will be filtered through the Green Certificate Employment Directory's central e-mail address. You will be notified of a potential employer's interest and the choice will be yours to follow up on the notification, or not.

5. How do I make contact with an employer or job-seeker?
If you are a job-seeker, follow the directions the employer has left in the ad. You may need to call between certain hours, or fax a resume in then follow with a phone call. Please apply only in the manner indicated by the employer.
If you are an employer, you may initiate contact with a potential employee through the Green Certificate Employment Directory's central e-mail. E-mails received will be forwarded to the indicated job-seeker. It is then up to the job-seeker to follow up. The Employment Directory is only available to allow for connections between job-seeker and employer, and is not a placement service. Green Certificate program staff will make contact with the job-seeker, if they are no longer available for employment, their profile will be removed and you will receive notification.

6. Do you need to have a Green Certificate to use the directory?
No. This directory will be open to everyone. Green Certificate graduates have successfully completed their specialty’s curriculum through apprenticeship-style training, including a minimum of three separate testing sessions with experienced agriculture producers.

7. How do I know what region I'm in?
Please view the region map below to determine which of the 5 regions you live in. If you are from outside of Alberta, you will be able to select that option on the drop down menu. If you are unsure, please contact 780-968-3551 or e-mail to GCED@gov.ab.ca for assistance.

8. Why isn't my posting showing up right away?
There will be a delay time while your posting is being reviewed. You will receive an e-mail once your posting is available to view on the website.

9. What is a trainer and a training farm?
A trainer is someone who has the desire, time and space on their farm to be a mentor to a student (trainee) completing one of the specialties in the Green Certificate program. Potential trainers should contact their nearest regional coordinator to discuss the details of becoming a Green Certificate trainer.

10. Can I submit my information through mail or fax?
Yes. Please call 780-968-3551to have a form mailed or faxed to you. Once you have completed the form, you may mail or fax it into the office.
