The Government of Alberta supports ongoing research and development focused on increasing the value of products derived from Alberta's forests. These innovative research efforts identify new ways of utilizing forest fibre that sustain Alberta's position as a leader in responsible natural resource management and enhance the competitiveness of the forest industry.

The Forestry Division has a long-standing relationship with FPInnovations, the world's largest private, not-for-profit forest research institute. It works to strengthen the Canadian forest sector's global competitiveness through leadership in environmental sustainability and forest product innovation.
InnoTech Alberta Inc. is a subsidiary of the publically funded corporation, Alberta Innovates. InnoTech offers a diversified range of scientific, engineering and technological research and testing capabilities, and the facilities to help accelerate technology development that serves both the private and public sectors.
