Signs and Symptoms
Hail damage is often associated with
- broken branches
- shredded leaves/needles
- open stem wounds of various sizes
Hail damage tends to occur on one side of the tree -- the direction the wind was blowing, whereas disease or insect damage occurs on all sides of the tree.
Similar Damage
Old hail damage is at times confused with stem cankers or blisters caused by disease or insects.
