The Historical Cereal Collection is grown every summer at the Field Crop Development Centre in Lacombe as demonstration plots. The collection contains varieties of barley, wheat, and triticale registered in western Canada since the time these records were kept.

The varieties are part of the germplasm collection and are used in the cereal breeding program at the Field Crop Development Centre.
