Natural health products include vitamins and minerals, herbal remedies, homeopathic medicines, traditional medicines, probiotics and other products like amino acids and fatty acids. These natural health products do not require a prescription to be sold but must be deemed safe for consideration as over-the-counter products.

Innovative food products and food ingredients that provide a health benefit or reduce the risk of certain diseases have significant growth potential in Alberta. This sector of agricultural production is very small at the present time but this industry has great growth potential.
