Industry builds solutions for the future
Forty-eight (48) recognized leaders from across the agricultural industry worked together as part of the Industry Governance Review Working Session held November 23 at Government House. Three members of the British Columbia Farm Industry Review Board actively contributed in effort to strengthen inter-provincial collaboration on governance and regulatory issues. On hand to listen and provide content as required were Marketing Council members and staff, and members of the Industry Governance Group. Minister Groeneveld encouraged participants to build solutions for the benefit of the entire industry.

Participants provided specific direction on working draft documents that were created from input received through the extensive industry consultation process. The work focused on where the agricultural industry needs to be in the future, principles for stakeholders in the industry, and emerging solutions for effective industry governance.

Green light to moving forward...
Overall, the participants scored a high level of acceptance for the emerging solutions and provided excellent detailed suggestions for improving the clarity of the wording. They also indicated strong preference for transformational change instead of steady, incremental change. Marketing Council’s immediate task is to use this direction from industry to prepare the first draft recommendations for the industry and Minister’s further refinement.

Feedback on an effective day - complete with room for improvement!
Participants provided specific feedback on what worked well and what could have been improved at the November 23 Working Session:
