| | The Western Forage Testing trials were initiated in 1994 and are conducted province-wide by Alberta Agriculture and Food, Alberta Research Council, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Provincial Applied Research Associations and the seed trade. These trials are funded in part by seed companies, the Alberta Branch Canadian Seed Growers Association (1993) and the Association of Alberta Co-op Seed Cleaning Plants Ltd. The yield comparison data used in this publication are collected and compiled by the Alberta Forage Variety Committee. This publication and the information on Ropin’ the Web are updated on a continuing basis, as it becomes available.
The guidelines, as set out by the Alberta Forage Variety Committee, require that there be three harvest years from two locations in each soil climatic area before the area data is included in this publication. All yields are taken as dry matter hay yields. Varieties may respond differently under pasture conditions. Yield data may vary from year to year depending on growing conditions. Information in this publication should only be used as an indicator as to the potential yield differences between varieties.
